The All New Suzuki Swift 2018 Model
Suzuki’s popular super mini has undergone significant refinement to give us a roomier interior, muscular arches and a more rigid vehicle overall.
The Swift will still be available in three variants, all comprising of naturally aspirated 1.2 litre engines. The entry-level model is the GA Base, available in manual transmission whilst the higher spec GL also offers an automatic.
On the outside, the Swift retains most of its familiar shape with subtle changes giving the car a more buffed up appearance through the inclusion of a redesigned grill, distinctive shoulder line and the slight lowering and widening of the body. The sloping roof line and light cluster design remain largely untouched, keeping the Swift recognizable. Rear door handles are concealed in the C-pillar, giving the car a 3-door like an appearance. It is believed the Swift will be available in an extensive color range, targeting a younger demographic. The car is also a noteworthy 104kg lighter than the outgoing vehicle which can be attributed to the development of the Heartect lightweight platform which was introduced first under the Baleno And Ignis models.

The cabin features an almost complete redesign with a new dashboard layout and fresh vents. A 7” touchscreen infotainment system serves as an awesome replacement for the previously included radio unit. Contemporary buttons and new graphics also contribute to the cabin’s more modernized feel. In addition to this, there is chrome detailing on the steering wheel and sporty grip areas. Though the overuse of plastic in key areas can be criticized, the vehicle manages to pull it. The new Swift is roomier, with a greater capacity for luggage (Around 265l) and more comfortable seating in the front and rear thanks to lowered seating positions.

Verdict:
Quality of drive in this car is impressive, taking on bumps like a true champ. Performance round the corner is great, maintaining poise and turning exactly as aimed. The larger wheelbase, implemented to free up space for passengers and luggage, has not compromised the Swift’s fun drive appeal in any way. The Swift is a wholly capable super mini, offering efficiency, chic-looks and great value for your money.
The latest Suzuki Swift will be available at SA dealerships from the beginning of June.
